Prototype Large 12" Mario + Luigi Toys Super Mario Bros Brothers Movie ERTL 1993
 
Prototype Painted Test Shots / Paint Sample models of the hard to find large 12" figures from the 1993 Super Mario Brothers Toy Line.
 
Several parts are hand painted. Various over paint in places on the figures which is common for pre-production prototype items.
The Face sculpts are very crisp and clean, much cleaner and detailed than the normal production ones.
 
** Look at the 3rd picture, normal production on left, and my prototype on right. You can see how much more detailed this model is, it is night and day **
 
Also, the pull cord voice box used in the Mario is from a completely different toy that the factory has used to test the mechanism and send these production models out for approval.
The sound when pulled is some nonsense about wild fire safety in a forest and how the forest belongs to you! Etc, 3 or 4 phrases! Must be from some cartoon character or other line. I think possibly a Smokey Bear talking toy. It is normal practice for factories to use things like this on prototype mock ups.
 
The Luigi pull cord is missing so don't know if it has a voice box in it, or this was just sent without a pull cord / voice box and the Mario one was enough for demo to be signed off on. One of his booster bits on his boots at the back is missing. It was like this when found at source.
 
Even normal production examples of these large 12" figures are sought are pricey and that's when you can even find them for sale!
